The Ellery Queen character created by Dannay and Lee is a mystery writer and amateur detective who helps his father, a New York City police inspector, solve baffling murders. Throught the years, many different actors portrayed Queen in movies and television. First Donald Cook, and Eddie Quillan, then Ralph Bellamy and William Gargan took turns playing the character in several films, opposite Charley Grapewin as Inspector Queen.
