Live from LaVal's #17

Live from LaVal's program from July 9, 1994 hosted by Earl Oliver featuring Fred LaRose and the Badger & Belinda.

Experimental guitarist extraordinaire, Fred LaRose, worked with a very complicated audio set up to amplify his very spacey hammered-dulcimer guitar style. At the time of this taping, he was a fast rising musician in the Bay Area with a whole legion of fans who would show up wherever he played, as can be witnessed in this video.

The Badger & Belinda were right at the end of their partnership when this show was taped - in fact this was their last onstage appearance together before violinist, Belinda Thom, went off to graduate school in electrical engineering at MIT! They had been a duo for several years and had wonderful stage chemistry. Known as "The Badger", Steve Carrillo is a genuine guitar "wizard", who plays some of the best slide guitar since Robert Johnson met the Devil at the crossroads, and sings in an alternately gruff and plaintive style. Belinda is a classically trained violinist applying classical licks to the Badger's blues tunes. Very powerful stuff!
