The Oscars

The 27th Academy Awards hosted by Bob Hope at the RKO Pantages Theatre on Wednesday, March 30, 1955, honoring movies released in 1954. Best Picture winner "On The Waterfront" also won Academy Awards for Best Actor, Supporting Actress, Black-and-White Art Direction-Set Decoration, Black-and-White Cinematography, Directing, Film Editing, and Writing -- Story and Screenplay. Judy Garland, nominated for Best Actress in "A Star Is Born," was in the hospital with her one-day-old son on the day of the show; NBC-TV had television equipment set up outside her hospital room window just in case she won, but the award went to Grace Kelly.
