The Bluesbox Collection

1930's Fancy Oscar Schmidt Catalog Guitar

I originally assumed that this guitar was a Harmony product because it is the same size and shape as one of the other instruments in this collection. Recently, however, after researching the construction and materials, I revised my opinion and now believe that it is an OS guitar. This closeup of the front shows the faux koa finish. Unlike a lot of faux finishes, however, this one isn't painted on. In fact, the solid birch top has been dramatically stained to emphasise the natural grain in order to simulate koa. The "tulip" rosette is stenciled on, as is the gold "binding". The back has a similar "koa" grained treatment. The peghead can be compared to one to a solid head Stella guitar - except that this one doesn't have the Stella logo on it.
