The two-piece bookmatched spruce top is in the shape of an hourglass and features colorful wood inlays. This view through the sound hole shows some of the inlay detail and also reveals that the back is made of flamed spruce - a common practice in 19th Century European guitars. The bridge is rather plain, unlike the fancy "moustache" bridges on many of Lacote's guitars and is one of the clues to the age of this instrument. This view also shows the delicate "starburst" inlay at the foot. The back and sides are painted with a faux rosewood finish, another common practice on guitars of this period, as is this cone-shaped heel. The sides, underneath the faux rosewood, are also made from maple. The "guitar-shaped" peghead is another feature typical of Lacote era guitars. The guitar came with 5 pearwood friction tuning pegs. I found this set of ebony flamanco pegs to replace them.
