The Bluesbox Collection

1964 Gibson Melody Maker

This standard tobacco sunburst was the only finish available until 1963. The double cutaway version appeared in 1961, before that, the model was a single cut, like it's Les Paul antecedents. This single pole, bridge position pickup was also standard, although a Melody Maker-D model did appear with two mini-humbuckers in 1960. The back reveals that the slab body is actually made from mahogany, as is the one-piece neck. The neck join is like a bolt-on, with no heel, but it is glued in. The peg head is a narrowed version of the standard Gibson head.
